Upscale restaurant Avra Estiatorio, an eatery with locations on the Upper East Side, Midtown East and Beverly Hills, recently opened in Rockefeller Center, NYC, outfitted with 1 SOUND speakers.
Anthem Productions did the audio installation in this trendy 16,500 square-foot restaurant, which boasts four floors’ worth of both indoor and outdoor dining space.
The 500-seat eatery, located in the Time-Life Building across the street from Radio City Music Hall, is the largest of the Avra locations and decided to incorporate 1 SOUND for their newest venture.
The goal for the audio design was to have equal coverage and intelligible background music for ambience.
Cannon C6 coaxials were distributed throughout the restaurant, these compact hi-fidelity speakers have extended low-frequency to 60 Hz and a max SPL of 114dB.
They were hung using C-Clamps and L-Brackets for easily adjustable positioning. For the spaces that needed wider coverage, Tower LCC44’s were deployed; these columns have a 120 degree horizontal dispersion. The cardioid columns have a rear-cancellation that helps reduce reflections from the wall and glass behind it, helping with sonic intelligibility in the restaurant.
For bass, SUB310’s and FSUB45’s were distributed. The SUB310’s have three 10” low-frequency drivers stacked making the cabinet only 11.5” wide or tall allowing them to be placed against walls and hidden underneath banquettes in the main dining area.
The FSUB45 is a compact subwoofer standing 7.4” tall and has a max SPL of 123 dB. These subwoofers were hidden under banquettes for distributed bass.
Avra was designed by The Rockwell Group to look like a chic Mediterranean courtyard with its white backdrops and use of water and greenery. In order to match the visual aesthetic of this restaurant the client wanted all white 1 SOUND speakers that blended into the interior.
