Hotel Cecil upgrades its audio system with Midas

Hotel Cecil, a well-known venue in Copenhagen, Denmark, has recently completed an exciting audio renovation project. This enhancement with a Midas HD96 –24-CC at the centre of the upgrade aims to better serve the diverse range of events hosted at the 350-capacity venue, which includes music shows across various genres including rock, pop, metal, jazz, and stand-up comedy. On Fridays and Saturdays, the venue transitions into the nightclub Cecil AM, featuring curated lineups of local and international DJs. Managed by Bremen Teater, Hotel Cecil is known for its outstanding acoustics and art deco-inspired interior design, providing a unique atmosphere for its events.

The venues broad event schedule presented significant challenges in maintaining a consistent and functional Front of House (FOH) set-up. The audio system needed to be versatile enough to accommodate the varying requirements of touring bands, one-off shows, and nightclub events. As such, ensuring cohesive sound quality across these different formats was paramount to the system upgrade.

Collaborating with Danish ‘Super Partners’ Matrix Sales to tackle its audio challenges, Claus Pederson lead the integration design, whilst working closely with chief engineer Mikael Flensborg, whose expertise were pivotal in creating a solution that met the venue’s high standards and diverse needs. Recognising the need for a new mixer, they selected the HD96-24-CC digital mixing console for its stability and superior preamps, crucial for maintaining the venue’s high audio standards. Mikael comments, “Being such a versatile venue, with everything from touring bands to one-off shows, and transforming into a nightclub each weekend, our requirements for a functioning Front of House are many. And although many choose to bring their own rigs at FOH, the HD96 ties all the knots together”.

The full integration included the Midas HD96-24 Console, a DL251 and DL155 StageBox, an AS 80 and DN9680. This new set up has also drastically helped cut processing time down, with the DL251 and DL155 running the I/O on stage it has simply become a matter of gain, low-cut and done.

Speaking on the installation Mikael added: “The processing possibilities seem to cater for all kind of mix philosophies, which makes the desk very versatile. Some touring acts even choose to start from scratch on our desk instead of loading the same show on the touring rig. It is a lot of fun to mix, and the possibilities seem endless, without being overwhelming”.

Whether its intimate music shows or lively nightclub nights, the new system guarantees top-notch sound quality. This upgrade has successfully met the venue’s diverse audio needs and truly cemented Hotel Cecil’s status as one of Copenhagen’s premier venues.
